About Us

The Communities for Kids initiative was created in response to community-identified needs related to the shortage of high-quality early care and education programs. These shortages not only impact children’s healthy development and school readiness, but also create challenges for communities working to attract and retain the strong workforce needed to thrive.

Communities for Kids partners with both public and private entities to support and coordinate local planning efforts focused on increasing access to high-quality early care and education for children from birth through age five. These partnerships are intentionally tailored to reflect each community’s unique strengths, challenges, and goals, helping ensure long-term growth and sustainability for both families and local communities.
