Shelby Johnson – Board Member

Shelby Johnson brings both professional insight and personal experience to her role on the York County Kids board.  As a school counselor at York High School, she supports students’ academic and emotional well-being while working closely with families, educators, and local partners. Her role gives her a front-line perspective on the systems that shape the lives of children and families, including school-based services, mental health support, and access to community resources.

Shelby received her Master of Arts in School Counseling from Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, and is passionate about strengthening connections between schools and the broader community. Originally from Norton, Kansas, she now lives in York with her husband Ryan and their two daughters.

As a mom raising a young family without extended support nearby, Shelby understands the day-to-day realities that many families face, especially when it comes to finding safe, reliable, and high-quality childcare. That personal experience fuels her commitment to advocating for accessible services that support working parents and help children thrive.

Outside of work, Shelby enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and soaking up life’s simple joys. Her work with York County Kids reflects her belief that investing in children, and those who care for them, is one of the most meaningful ways we can strengthen our communities.
